Crochet Beanie Hat:

Today I got more yarn for gifts. I made winter hats before but I’m finally getting the hang of it and want to share. So here’s what I’ve learned:

Most peoples measurement from the top of the ear to the top of the head is around 6”. So either make the hat 6.5” OR add 2-3 more inches so you can fold the edges up. I also learned to go around an inch less of the circumference of their head. Hats stretch and you don’t want too much room. That’s what I’ve learned dimensions wise.

Actual hat wise, I learned that the best way to make a hat is to have 2-3 inches of sc in the back loop at one end. This would be the ribbed part of the hat. I learned that it is essential to have about an inch on the opposite end of sl st. Sl st on both sides so that end is only sl st and NOT any sc. When you do this, that end of the hat won’t bunch up as much as it would if you did sc on one side and on the other after you flip your project.

I learned all this from making a hat with yarn that is very easy to see… fuzzy yarn on the other hand is another story. My best advice for fuzzy yarn is feel for the crochet st openings. It’s almost impossible to see each st depending on the fuzzy yarn.

I hope what I shared is helpful! If you have any questions or want me to share something else, comment below!

With care,

Alyssa
