I am so new to this.. I wanted to create a collared sweater to match my grandpas old jean jacket. It has red and yellow accents on the back of it so I used those colors to crochet my sweater.

After trying on the front panels without the collar, I realized I made it too wide but had a deadline so I didn’t take it apart. So… something I learned that maybe helpful is make sure the opening of the sweater isn’t too big. Instead, make sure the top of the sweater is measured correctly.. as in the left and right sides of the head opening are long enough to actually sit on your shoulders comfortably. (If that makes sense)
Now I do like my sweater but it was more of a learning lesson than a project to be proud of. I hope what I learned helps you if you decide to make a collared sweater!
How the front panel should look for a collared sweater:

The |__| area is the spot where the two flaps go. If you have a collared shirt there are usually buttons to close the flaps.
The \_ _/ area is the spot where the collar goes. So you start crocheting where the \_ meets the |__| and go around to the other _/. Keep adding rows of whatever stitch you’d like until it’s long enough to be a collar.
Hopefully this helps! Otherwise there are free videos on YouTube that can offer more visual help!
With care,
Alyssa
