The Soulful Now

I have been trying new yarns from hobby lobby the past 3-4 months or more. It would have been so nice to have someone tell me these things about certain yarns.. before I got them!

Here’s what I learned:

Yarntopia- amazing. One of my favorites. It’s SO soft and comfortable to wear. It works up so quickly and rarely splits. One of the best yarns I’ve used to keep a steady pace and crochet quickly with no problems. This yarn is shiny and the colors are dark/pale ish looking. Very vintage/retro looking to me.

Bambootiful- love that it’s made from bamboo but it can be SO hard to work with. The yarn splits horribly so getting a steady crochet pace is impossible. Your hook goes straight through the yarn as you’re trying to hook which is just a mess. It’s more matte looking and the colors are vibrant.

Comfy classic- SUPER warm material. It’s like a hot box so great for hats. It splits horribly and unwinds when you cut it. When you sew up a project it gets so unwinded that you have to get a new strand of yarn to finish sewing the rest. These colors are very similar to Yarntopia.

Breathe deep- NEVER splits or frays. This yarn is so sturdy and so soft. I noticed that sometimes I get a ball that isn’t as soft as others which is disappointing so make sure to feel for the soft ones otherwise it won’t feel as soft on when it could feel like heaven.

Velvety smooth- beautiful and so soft but has some downsides. If you need to frog your project it sometimes gets stuck and then the yarn doesn’t look evenly smooth. The velvet likes to come off the string it’s on. Any time you cut the yarn, velvet comes off in clumps which feels so wasteful. I’ve even had the problem where I frog my project and in the middle of the yarn the velvet comes off (even when I’m so gentle and slow) and there’s a spot where you see the white string. The colors are pretty true velvet shades.

Fur the moment- I have no complaints. It works up nice and is very warm. No problems with the fur shedding either. (So far)

Luciana- love this yarn. It’s so warm but not too heavy. It does fuzz up especially I’d you’re using it to sew large sections of your project. I made a vest and after wearing it several times it has fuzzed up. When I crocheted with it, it did like to knot up because it’s so fuzzy. Maybe I just wasn’t careful enough but it seemed easy to get caught.

Chunky & cozy- similar to the velvety smooth yarn in regards to cutting the yarn and clumps falling off the ends but I didn’t have problems with clumps coming off the middle sections of the yarn. It works up easily and is very soft. Colors are true to what you see online. Pretty bright and colorful. Almost neon too me.
