How To: Crochet Up-cycle Jeans

For those of you just looking for the pattern, scroll down to “pattern:”

I had this great idea to up-cycle a dress but knew that would take a long time and then another idea sparked. UP-CYCLE JEANS!!

I have an old pair of light jeans and they are tight around the ankle. I only wear flare pants or yoga pants so I thought, “how can I transform these jeans into a flare style?” One thing lead to the next and I did it!

So let’s start with how I cut the jeans. I started with the jeans on and got a grey washable marker to mark where to cut. I felt for my kneecap and drew a grey “V”. I then angled my scissors on one side of my jeans to match up with the angle of the “V” and began cutting. When I got to the middle tip of the “V” I angled my scissors to match the angle of the other side of the “V” and finished cutting.

The next part isn’t fun… if you know of a better way to do this then please leave a comment below but here’s what I did:

With my large crochet needle, I poked a hole through 3/4 away from the edge on a side the jeans.

I pulled a yarn loop through and chained 2. I then poked another hole a half a cm away and did a sc in that little hole. I repeated this until the tip of the “^” and poked a hole in the middle of the “^”. I sc then chained 2 and then sc in the same hole. I repeated this process until I reached the first sc and then sl st in the first sc. I then did a row of double crochet and at the “^” I double crocheted, chained 1, and double crocheted. I continued double crocheting until the next tip and repeated the dc, ch 2, dc. For the next rows I just repeated the granny square stitch’s for the larger sections and then used a light blue yarn to separate the granny square stitch sections. I did rows of just double crochet or single crochet with the light blue yarn.

These jeans took me a while to make but the really did turn out so cute. I hope you enjoy this pattern!

IMPORTANT FOR THOSE USING THE PATTERN: For those of you who may not be using the same yarn as me, the first beige section is 7.5 cm. The brown section is 2 cm. The white section is 5 cm and the long beige section is 23 cm. Keep in mind this is based off of my height. You may want to add more rows to the bottom of yours if you’re taller than 5’6 or lessen rows if you’re under 5’6.
